Why are the formatting buttons (bold, italic, smileys) at the top of the composition field where I post a thread greyed out? I must be missing something simple. Thank you.

Sounds like you toggled BBCode off. Turn it back on by clicking the brackets like in my screenshot.
If I had a penny every time I did that and forgot…!
