New to Mac, I have movies from my MS PC on a harddisk, each movies as a number of VIDEO_TS.IFO / VTS_1.VOB files. How do I compress them and where do I file them on my Imac in order to view the movies?

You can compress (rip) them with Handbrake. You can watch movies from anywhere you want by double-clicking on them, but if you want them to show up in Front Row you can put them in the Movies subdirectory of your home folder.
