compression causing audio slip :S

Im using QT pro to compress a music video - having the audio in sync with the vocals on t he video is vvvv important, everytime i compress i get a tiiiny (less than a second) delay thats small but noticeable, very irritating. Anyone know any workarounds (or better software?)

What format/codec is the video you are trying to compress?

mpg4 - for youtube. I tried using visualhub, altho the picture quality doesn't look as good (the blacks have gone a bit grey) its done a perfect job and hey, its going on youtube so who cares - just needed the audio in sync.
