Anybody know what Apple charges retailers for computers; i.e. what % of list?

CompUSA is running a promotion this Sunday offering product including Apple laptops and desktops for its cost plus 5%.

So anyone know what kind of reatil margins we are talking about here?

My guess is very small. For example, Best Buy offers its staff a similar employee discount.

An iPod that went for 299.00 retail would sell at 5% above Best Buy cost for about 275. Not very discounted. In general the retail margin on Apple products is low as Apple is not fond of providing huge discounts.

Where you make a ton of savings, is on accessories. Cables, cases, etc. will be dirt cheap. At Best Buy a $119.00 Monster HDMI cable was just 22.75 with discount. So take advantage of it for the small stuff, and compare the costs of the Mac carefully.

I am guessing that the deal would be education prices plus 5% type of pricing , so go look at the education store and add 3% to 5% and you will have an idea.
