Computer asleep, THEN charge. Does Power Nap work?

OK, so let's say I've got a Macbook running on battery. I shut the lid and put it to sleep. THEN I plug it into a charger. Power Nap is enabled when plugged in, disabled on battery.

In this scenario, does Power Nap still run even though I started charging AFTER the computer went to sleep?

It doesn't matter whether you plug it in before or after it enters sleep mode.
