Computer boots to Safe Mode Every time

I booted into safe mode earlier to try get my external display working, and it didn't work so i restarted and it automatically booted into safemode again. Every time i try to boot osx it does a really long boot with a load bar under the apple logo so i am assuming its going into safemode, I am not sure how to tell if i am actually in safe mode
