I have bought a second hand mid 2010 unibody macbook pro. I have Mountain lion running on it. I try to change my computer name using System Preferences>Sharing. The computer name changes to the name i set. However when i restart the system, the computer name reverts back to the old name? Can you please help me resolve this?
Thanks

<not an answer>

I have the exact same thing. Sometimes (!) after a reboot my (retina) macbook's computername changes to the name I had configured when unpacking. Don't know why this happens. Maybe I'll open some log files to see if that gives me an idea on why this happens.

It's picking up a new hostname via DHCP

Run this from a Terminal:

Code:
sudo scutil --set HostName whateverYouWantForYourComputerName

Fixed

Guess what....

Just found out that our IT department is running some scripts where, in certain situations, my computer is renamed to <userid>-mac

THAT explains a lot. Nothing technical, just a script.
Nevertheless thank you for the support.
