iPod touch Computer thinks iPod touch is iPhone!

Heya, got an iPod touch today and the picture of the lead towards the itunes logo is on my iPod touch whenever I turn it on, so I connect it via USB and boot up itunes though itunes says "iPhone cannot be connected because of an unknown error" WTF?!?!? It isn't even an iPhone!

Update iTunes to latest version.
