I have a concern at how well the new iPhone 4 will feel in the hand. I have a first generation Touch, that has a flat back and it's harder to comfortably hold in my hand compared to the rounded back of my iPhone 3G. I never thought the rounded back would make that much of a difference, but it does. Any thoughts?

Guess we'll just wait and see but I suspect it'll feel much like the Blackjack felt and that was OK.

i dont think color will have anything to do with how it feels.
I never said anything about color in my post. Maybe you misread what my thread title said, "Concern About iPhone 4 Flat Back". That was flat "BACK", not flat "BLACK".

Indeed. I'm sure my grandfather and other people of his generation (and sadly, some of younger generations) would prefer the way a white iPhone feels in his hand over the way a black iPhone feels in his hand ;)

:D

I have a feeling the flat back might be used as a touch pad (future use?) so you can navigate not only from the front, perhaps implemented on the 2011 models? I believe the Motorola Backflip uses this already.

Well at least it'll be steady when you lay it on a table.

I hated how you could never use the 3G/3GS on a table/flat surface.

Personally I really like the new form factor. With flat sides (I'm not speaking of the back), instead of the rounded ones of the original shape, the phone will not be as slippery. I carry mine in a case, but prefer to use it without a case or skin. The new iPhone 4 will be perfect for my usage.

Actually I like the more squarish feel. I was holding my iPod touch (original) earlier comparing it to me iPhone 3G and I think that the flat back feels more sturdy and robust...

I've thought about this too but I think it's something you will get used to quite quickly..

What I also thought about was how now, without the curved back, there will be more of the phone's back in contact with the surface it is lying on and thus more opportunity for scratches!
