Frustratingly I keep getting asked when trying to download new apps

"Confirm your Apple ID password for
** Email address **
To renew touch id purchases"

I've been asked to enter a password more times than using my print to download apps

Why is this? I didn't restart my device and I've used touch id in the last 24 hours, in fact I unlocked my device with touch id moments before.

Touch id to just unlock your phone doesn't seem like a good way of using an otherwise great technology. Almost no need to have it in the App Store if I keep having to enter my password

It sounds like Apple does not trust the touch ID system.

That was my conclusion - because you are making purchases attached to your credit card they force you to enter a password every once in a while.

I'd rather just use my print, it is secure enough for me.

That or touch id has issues within the App Store.

Just shows that even though the hardware is there, we are not ready to move away from a password yet. Passwords will be around for a while.

It'll only prompt that when you restart your iPhone. I was annoyed at first but then I went 4 days without rebooting and never got bugged once about it.

Not true, I haven't restarted my phone since day 1 and it still does this.

Ditto, at the rate I download apps or buy songs, I'm not sure how often I'll get to use my fingerprint for purchases.

Well I don't know what to tell you. My settings have Touch ID App Store enabled purchases. Maybe it's in your settings? Who knows. All I know is that I went days without entering a password and was always able to scan using my fingerprint.

Mine is also set to touch id app store enabled purchases and still asks me to confirm touch id.

solution

Hey I had the same issue and thought it was a little silly.......

I went to setting and unchecked then checked itunes purchases.... I believe it asked for my password.

I then went into the appstore and was prompted to present my fingerprint........

I think its more of a glitch on Apples end but it seemed to work for me after that.
