Looks like the Macbook Air Magsafe style to me.

There is a picture around here somewhere of someone's 17" magsafe and it is different. It looks like the MBAir's.

Can you still use the previous gen one with the new unibodies? Wondering if I have to buy new ones.

I just exchanged my Macbook Pro 13" for the new one today and yes they come with the new style Magsafe. and no its not the same as the Macbook Air.

Is the voltage different than the previous unibodies?

13" 2010 Macbook Pro: 2.4 and 2.66 Ghz
# built-in, 63.5WHr lithium polymer battery; and
# 60 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter.

15" 2010 Macbook Pro: 2.4, 2.53, 2.66
# built-in, 77.5WHr lithium polymer battery; and
# 85 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter.

17" 2010 Macbook Pro: 2.53 Ghz
# built-in, 95WHr lithium polymer battery; and

same question

Thanks for the info. Not sure it answers the question: Can you still use the old one (spring 2008 in my case)? I have two: one for work, one for home so I don't have to lug it around. Would prefer not to buy a second when I buy the updated MBP.

Both are the same, it's just a design choice (the LED Cinema Display uses the MacBook Air style even though the MacBook Pros were all rectangular for the charger).

Also confirmed. Specs on both the old charger, and new charger are exactly the same. The only difference is the connector, so I think it is safe to say you can use either one with the new unibodies.

I actually like these better than the previous type as it doesnt protrude as much on the side when your sitting in indian style.

Sometimes I'd knock the magsafe off with my thigh when sitting down on an armchair.

It just doesnt stick out as much.

I want to buy an extra power adapter for the 13"MBP...I assume that the old ones wont work.. Anyone know the product number for this new adapter so that I can buy it from amazon/etc (ie someone who doesnt charge 3000% more than they should (ie Apple!!)

The old ones will work. The specs are exactly the same.

The specs are the same, but is the physical connector the same? It obviously looks different -- but that doesn't mean the end of the connector is different.

If no one else finds out, I'll know within a week or so.

If the connector were changed, they would have to refresh the Cinema display - And i don't think they have.

It's just the look the changed :)

Confirming both will work but they have had ALOT of trouble with the older ones. My new 15" i7 came with the new connector and I just ordered two more from Apple.

They look better as the wire does not go perpendicular into the connector which looks like a HIGH wear area. The new plug should be way more durable in the long run!

Looks like Apple is just changing the design for the best. It sure looks better but either will work just fine, the new design just looks better and looks like it will hold up.

Also when you order a spare charger from Apple, note that they are selling both so look carefully to make sure you pick the newer design!
