I just got a new MBP 16" Refurb. I got one initially, the i9, 16GB, 1TB HDD model and sent it back because it had kernel panics and then it stopped booting except for when I did a reset of the SMC. I returned it and got a refurbed i9, 32GB RAM, 1TB HDD model and again, I'm having kernel panics. I'm so frustrated. I love MBPs, but it's hard to justify keeping a machine that is almost $3000. I searched online and saw a lot of people are having this problem in the MBP 16" models.

I'm at a loss on what to do. I don't want to return it, but I don't want to keep a $3000 rebooting machine. Go for a 3rd one? Or make the move back to PC. What a letdown. Seems like it has something to do with the GPU.

This is the kernel panic I'm seeing:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff8002016487): "AppleIntelFramebuffer::setPowerState(0xffffff834a193000 : 0xffffff7f85521d88, 1 -> 0) timed out after 45977 ms"@/AppleInternal/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/xnu/xnu-6153.101.6/iokit/Kernel/IOServicePM.cpp:5296

Are you still getting it after the supplemental update?

Yep. I got it for the first time after the supplemental update. Had the laptop since Tuesday. It only does it when it's powered and sleeping with the lid shut. I just did another SMC reset and turned off the power nap function. Curious to see if that does anything. I really don't want to go back to a pc but I don't want a malfunctioning $2800 laptop.

Is this with a Ethernet adapter connected to it? I've had no issues w/ older Macs but newer one (Late 2016) does it every other day with either Apple or 3rd party (Anker, etc) ethernet adapters connected.

Nope. On wifi.

I started fresh this time, no migration no TM backup. Actually I still have to copy some stuff from the old Mac to the new one, large copies over wi-fi crashed randomly. During the weekend I'll try again, copying stuff in smaller chunks...
Had one kernel panic so far, I guess it is related to 10.15.4. I installed the supplemental update this morning, so let's see if solves, otherwise I'll have to wait for 10.15.5
I'm an iOS developer so I can't really switch to Windows, have to stay on the Mac so I won't return the machine. I don't think yours are hardware problems, so returning the Mac and getting a new one won't help
