Okay so I have two Apple IDs. One is my primary Apple ID for all my development stuff plus all my iTunes purchases. It's NOT en email address. For some reason, I couldn't set up "find my iPhone" with it since my Apple ID was not an email address. So I used another free Apple ID I had (which is a mac.com email address I had as a trial a long time ago) and I used that for "Find my iPhone". And that worked just fine.
Now that I have iOS5 installed, that @mac.com Apple ID became my "iCloud" Apple ID since the Apple ID I use for iTunes purchases is not an email address and iOS 5 would not work with iCloud.
iOS 5 even created an "@me.com" email address for my @mac.com Apple ID that I was using for iCloud. And I can sync etc.
However, I cannot seem to get the @me.com email address or the @mac.com Apple ID to work on my Mac. So I can sync my contacts / calendars / etc to iCloud but I cannot get them on my Mac. For example if I enter my Apple ID in iCal it cannot login with that Apple ID and if i try to setup my new "@me.com" email address that iCloud created for me on my Mac, it does not work.
Does anybody know if this it is even possible to sync iCloud content to a Mac at this point, or is that not possible because it is in beta?
I guess ideally I'd like to use my primary iTunes purchase AppleID for all of my iCloud syncing stuff as well for simplicity but it simply won't let me use that because it's not an email address. I also tried changing that Apple ID to one of my email addresses but it told me I couldn't do that because those email addresses were already in use or something like that.
If I am this confused about Apple IDs, email addresses, and cloud syncing, think about how confusing it will for my grandma when she tries to use this....
