First time using a laptop with a Thunderbolt port and I'm a little confused as to which TB video adapters I should buy.

I have a 1920x1200 monitor with a DVI port so I need an adapter for that. I've been browsing Monoprice and eBay and it seems like every non-overpriced adapter only supports up to 1080p? What's up with that?

Also, I need an HDMI adapter. So I've been thinking of buying just an HDMI adapter and an HDMI-DVI cable. Would that setup work with my monitor?

You must have a powered adaptor/converter to use DP/Thunderbolt beyond 1080p. If you use an HDMI you can only get 1920x1080 (1.78 or 16x9) and your monitor is 1920x1200 (1.6 or 16x10).

EDIT: Looks like HDMI will support up to 1920x1200.
