iPod Confused iPod

For some reason, the normally smooth communication between my iPod classic and iTunes has been disrupted. iTunes refuses to sync my iPod, and also refuses to restore it, complaining that an unknown error has occurred. I've tried rebooting the iPod and restarting iTunes. Neither helped.
 
The problem seems to have fixed itself. The iPod mysteriously rebooted itself, and then it started working normally.:confused:
