Hi All,

I've never upgraded any of Macbook Pro's, and I thought it was time for me to give it a shot. Apologies ahead for the very verbose post... I heard you needed to be careful of the type of RAM you get, and so I started doing some research.

I have a Macbook Pro 15-Inch Early-2011 Intel i7

According to Apple's site (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270?viewlocale=en_US#link3)
  • DDR3
  • 1333MHz
  • 8 Gig Max

I was pretty disappointed as I wanted at least 1600MHz speed and 16 Gigs. But... I was happy to see that according to MacRumors (http://guides.macrumors.com/Understanding_Intel_Mac_RAM#Buying_RAM_for_Intel_Macs) the limit is 16Gigs and the slots will accept 1600Mhz

So I guess I wanted to ask the community if it was indeed safe to bump my RAM up to 16Gigs with 2 pieces of 8Gig 1600Mhz RAM

Last but not least... it looks like this page
http://guides.macrumors.com/Buying_RAM#Which_RAM_to_Buy
is recommending Corsair Vengeance CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9
is that still one of the best pieces I can get?

One other minor note... I don't see Crucial on this list http://guides.macrumors.com/Understanding_Intel_Mac_RAM#Buying_RAM_for_Intel_Macs
