hey guys ive just got a MBP that came with quicktime X. i assume this is the best/latest quicktime player but when i try watch some videos it wont play them, it justs shows me a largish icon of the older quicktime player icon. anyone know why it doesnt play with QTX?

i have tried downloading quicktime 7 to just view these vids but half way through setting up it stops me putting it on my hard drive something about already there and to check software for updates.

The videos are most likely not playing because they are not compatible with QuickTime X. To install QuickTime 7 on Snow Leopard, insert your Snow Leopard Install DVD and select Optional Installs. Then launch the Optional Installs package and select QuickTime 7 when prompted. Follow the steps the installer gives you after that.

There is also VLC Player, Movist and some other players that play files that Quick Time can't play.

There is also Perian to give QT the ability to play more types of files.

celticpride678, thanks I will give that a shot soon as i get a chance.

spinnerlys, i will look into them too.

Hopefully no more issues..
