Got a 15” late 2013 with 512gb ssd.
Use as my daily mostly.
Of late been having some software issues, so decided to do a reinstall via recovery mode. However it says only 26gb free space and needs 2 gb more. So I deleted some more files about 5gb went back to reinstall and it says only 22gb free space free.
Did a first aid, no errors found. Went back to delete some more files about 80gb files deleted. Went back to reinstall and now it says only 8gb free needs more 19 gb even disk utility in recovery says the same. But in about this mac storage section and finder it says about 90gb
available.

Why is there this discrepancy how do I go forward?
Also drive dx states there is 2 retired blocks but that has not been recent has been some months back.

Download DiskWave from here:
It's small in size and free.

Open DiskWave and go to the preferences.
Put a checkmark in "show invisible files".
Close preferences.

The DiskWave window shows you all your volumes and drives in plain English (no ridiculous graphical formats).
Click on any item "on the left".
Now, you'll see what's ON the volume, listed in order of "largest to smallest".
You can easily locate what's eating up your space.
