There are some related concepts in Mail and iCal that I don't understand.

1. What is the "On My Mac?". I understand it is folder on the Mac rather than in my IMAP email. However, some Notes and To Dos seem to get there, and others get into the IMAP store.

2. It appears that To Do items when deleted are gone forever. No "trash", no Time Machine, just gone.

3. Some of the To Do items are in calendars, but others are in "Calendar" in the IMAP. How do they get there? And the "Calendar" calendar does not seem to exist "on my Mac", just in the IMAP store.

This is confusing, and checking the documentation, web searching, and in the Pogue Missing Manual don't shed much light either. Is there a good explanation of these things somewhere?

I have this same problem and find it exceptionally frustrating. In addition, when to-dos are created attached to my IMAP calendars and I try to move them to local "On My Mac" calendars, the link to the email is broken.

I hope some knowledgeable person provides some insight - I have none.
