Ok, so I synced my iPhone a few days ago, and the first thing that popped up was a message:

"Congratulations, your iPhone has been unlocked. To setup and sync this iPhone, click Continue."

Now, I have an officially unlocked iPhone anyway, but it was weird to get this message. Has this happened to anyone else?

I have never heard of this - where are you located, what carrier, what version of iTunes?

I'm using a new Zealand iPhone, running the latest software for iTunes. My current carrier is tmobile prepaid in the US. It didn't resync from scratch and just continued with a regular sync after I clicked continue. I don't know why I didn't think to take a screen. Now that I think about it, I may have had a completely discharged iphone when I plugged it in.

What's with the face palm? This was not harmful and I'm just curious as to the message.

April fools, no!
:D
No guys. This is FO REAL!
Cool message though. I do love the service message that pop on-screen whenever you update iPod Touches/ iPhones. So.... POPPY and.... INFORMATIVE.....

That's just plain stupid. Worse than calling my iPhone an iPod!!

I'm just kidding! Although, the other day I unlocked my iPhone without any hacks or mods. I turned it on and it said "Slide to Unlock" so I did!

Unlocked iPhone, April Fools day...? :D Plus I love Samus!!

This is just an error/glitch, if it really did happen. Try a different SIM card just to be sure.

what would trying a different sum achieve? My iPhone is already unlocked. Unless you mean to say it has locked again.

This is what happens in Australia when the carrier unlocks the phone, it's April 2 here so no April Fools.

You get a Carrier Settings Update, download and install and the message "Congratulations your iPhone is unlocked" appears on the screen inside the iTunes application.

All 100% legit, it's what happens with factory-unlocked iPhones.

People, people. Please, stop it with the jokes and the facepalm. This is real, I've seen it happen, and seen it posted here. Please search.

Op, the carrier unlocked your phone, this is known to happen in Australia

I did do a search, but perhaps not as thoroughly as I should have.

I guess if a carrier update occurred and it re-unlocked, that makes sense.

My phone was already unlocked, though.

OP, I was telling everyone to stop it with the jokes. I knew you were talking the truth. And I wasn't telling you to search, just telling everyone else :)
