After holding on to my friggin' first gen Sawtooth 400 for 5 years, I need an upgrade of some sort, and the new 12" iBooks look pretty neat. The problem is, I have a 15" lcd studio display that I would still like to use when I'm sitting at my desk, which I currendly have connected to my wicked old computer by means of a DVI to ADC connector. I know that the iBooks don't have a DVI port, and I simply won't buy it if I can't hook my display up.

Is it possible? If so, how?

Try a VGA>DVI adapter. See here.

You'll probably want to do the hack so that you don't have to mirror the internal display as well.

Ibook has only a VGA port. to convert from VGA->DVI one needs a graphic processor to do that! It has been widely discussed in various forms! There is no cost effective way of doing that the VGA-> ADC/DVI converters are close to 300-400$ and totally obsolete. They sprang up when the initial powerbooks had a VGA port! This is what made me go for a Powerbook! Now i use my ibook as just a laptop and the powerbook as a desktop with 17" Apple display. Either wait for the powerbook updates next year or get a 12" powerbook. Another option is sell this 15" display (they fetch a decent price 250-300$). Get an ibook with and a 17-19" other brand LCD they generally are more forgiving and also have a VGA with a DVI port!
