is it possible to hook up the apple super drive to a powered usb hub?

No. It only works when directly connected to the MBA, because it provides more power than the USB spec, that hubs adhere to.

There may be some that will work, but I don't believe that there is a comprehensive list.

I bought a Micro Innovations 4-Port Hi-Speed USB Travel Hub (USB220N) and an AC adapter (5 volt 2.6 amps) with a 2.3mm connector and the SD runs rather well connected to the hub. I've also attached my MagicJack adapter (Internet Phone) and they run at the same time.

I bought the AC adapter at Radio Shack for $19.99 which included (6) different tips and it's a variable 3 volts - 18 volts.
