Connect external HDD drive via USB Hub

Hi there,

I wanna order an external SSD drive for my MacBook Air M1.
For now here it is some external drives like ADATA SE760 for a reasonable price.

After reading some user reviews on this and similar ones, I suddenly figured out that they were unable to use the disk if its connected via USB-hub. It surprised me a lot, because I have USB-box with my 2 HDD's from the desktop PC being successfully connected and visible via USB-hub.

Having only two USB ports in Air M1, one of which goes to charger cable, lefts me with only one USB port free. So there is no way to avoid using USB-hub, because I have another USB devices.

The questions is:
1. Is this restriction vendor-related and there is some disks which you can use via USB-hub?
2. Is there another way to plug external SSD along with a charger and get another USB port free?

Were the users who complained about not being able to use the drive "through a hub"...
... Were they Mac users?
Or... were they PC users?
