I am trying to connect a bigger monitor to mac book but still want to use the mac book keyboard and trackpad. When I connect an external monitor to mac book, it works as a dual screen. How can I turn off the mac book screen and use the external monitor as the only primary screen?

Set the displays to mirror mode, then turn the brightness on your MBP screen all the way down.
Can you disable Macbook Pro screen and only use the external screen with Lion OS?
Alternately you can use this method to actually turn off the built in display.
