I just got an M4 pro Mac Mini. I also have a late 2014 Mac Mini that I use as a file server. I sometimes need to transfer large files between the computers. If I connect them with a thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter and tb3 cable will that allow a faster connection than the gigabit ethernet? Is the only option to do this to buy the $50 dollar mac dongle or are there other options?

You don’t use a TB3 cable with the Apple TB3><TB2 adapter, the TB3 end plugs directly into the M4 mini.

You need a TB2 cable to go from the adapter to the old mini.

Other adapters are hit and miss because they don’t handshake properly.

I don’t know about the networking question, but it used to work back in the day.

Supposedly MacOS Tahoe loses TB2 support?
