iPod touch Connect ipod to pc for first time

what happens when ipod is connected to pc for the very first time?

if it syncs, does it put all the music the first time or the next time?

i think it would be useful if it just backed up the ipod's original settings first...

Don't worry- this is Apple software we are talking about. It doesn't do much without your permission (you will be able to choose what goes on there and then click 'sync'). I'm sure everything will turn out fine. Or you will BSOD. One or the other.
