I have a macbook pro 15 inch with thunderbolt and osx lion
and a imac 24 inch.

Now i went to an apple store and ask them if i could connect my macbook to my imac, they said just 'no' and they gave me no other solution... nice service haha. What I want is that when i arrive home i just want to work on the big screen by simply connect the macbook to the imac.

I'm considering to sell my imac and buy a 27 inch screen, but an apple screen costs 999 euro while i can get an HP 27 inch screen for just 340 euro.
But my 2 questions are the next:

can i connect the macbook to a different screen than an apple screen
what would you do? :)

Only the 27" iMac can be used as additional external display for other computers, the 24" iMac can not, thus the concise answer you got.

A Mac can be connected to any display you want, you just need the appropriate adapter

are there non-apple displays with thunderbolt?

if i can connect it to another screen they i'm going to choose between these ones i think. You have an opinion?
