OK, I am trying to connect my Macbook to my Sony Trinitron CRT TV want to watch online movies on my TV in the living room. Nothing is working.

First I bought a Dynex, apple mini to RCA and S-video adapter. connected the TV through the RCA port and I got a very fuzzy ghost of an image. not watchable. also the image on my Macbook got really huge whenever the adapter was attached to the laptop.

I downloaded an app called SwitchResX Control, because it is supposed to help with resolution. (maybe that was my problem) cant figure out how to make the app work, the instructions are cryptic and not user friendly at all (I am not a computer geek, so all information needs to be put in a way your Grandmother would understand. Step by step instructions that sort of thing.)

The guy who created the SwitchResX app, Stephane Madrau, did manage to explain to me that I had to turn off Mirroring on my laptop. I did that and now the image on the computer monitor stays the same when I attach the adapter, but now the TV does not get a signal at all.

I thought maybe it was a digital to analogue issue so i bought a Digital to Analogue converter for the TV, but it does not have the ability to detect any devices. so that is out.

I got an RCA 4 input RF modulator and video switcher, but it does not detect a signal from the Macbook either ( I figured that if I put in online before the HD converter then the HD converter would have to recognize it right?

I get nothing, the screen on the TV is just black. I know it is possible to do this, but nothing seems to work. Ever since I turned off mirroring, the TV does not recognize the signal. There must be some setting on the Macbook that I am not seeing to allow the computer to use 2 monitors at the same time that are not mirrored.

Just want to watch movies, Any help here? Please give me step by step instructions on how to make my TV recognize the signal from my laptop, preferably while using the hardware and or software that I already have.

To get TV out to work over composite or S-Video you must use the Apple branded adapter. The Dynex one will not work. Also, which Macbook model do you have?

I wasnt using the S-Video cable anyway, as I do not have one, and adapter allows for either S-video or RCA, so I was using the RCA cable
