Connect my MBP to my other LCD

I have bought m MBP and it came with a VGI DVI adapter and I would like to be able to connect my MBP to my other 20" LCD monitor for music production.
so I dont really know if I need a software or only buy a cable of some sort.

Let me know if u know what can be done about this.

Just plug it in and the MBP will see it and extend on to it. You can then change the set-up in system settings - Displays
