Connect to Itunes to use push notifications

When i open up any app with notifications on, i get this error message. I have searched but find no solution.

Is it ok to just Connect to Itunes as it says?

I have been reluctant to sync my iphone since jailbreaking with jailbreakme.com; is there any problem with syncing if u dont update?

Syncing is fine. Only when you update the firmware that's the problem.
