I bought the 512GB drive from BestBuy. I really like it but I am a bit concerned since it becomes really hot when transferring files/running time machine backup. I can barely hold it and once I top using it still it is warm just being connected.
Is this normal for SSD driver or could I have a faulty drive?

Appreciate any insight.
Thanks

Yes, it is normal for SSDs to get very warm during sustained usage - but impossible to say if this unit is running too hot without having measurements to compare to its acceptable operating range. Is it an aluminum enclosure? Did you run a SMART program to check it for time operated outside the acceptable temperature range? (HDDs have this and IIRC some external SSDs do also.)
