connected device icon for toolbar ?

I feel like I'm constantly asking 'forum thread questions' on how to adapt mac to windows, ha ...

but, is their a way of having an icon appear in the task bar ( like in windows), so that when a usb or connected device is attached via usb, it'll display an icon in the task bar, that'll give you the ability to see whats connected, and also, to disconnect if wanting too ?

You can have such icons automatically appear on the Desktop, but not the Dock.
