An interesting article from flatpanelshd.com shows just where Apple is compared to rival streaming devices.

Roku 41%
FireTV 18%
Xbox 11%
Apple TV 9%
Playstation 9%
Others 6%
Chromecast 5%
Samsung 1%

Overall picture quality of streaming increased by 23% from 2017 to 2018
Apple had the best streaming quality measured in bitrate (6.8 Mb/s)
Playstation had the least buffering (.21%)
