Hi guys.

I have the current rMB15 and use the Dell u2711 as an external. Can i simply get an apple hdmi 1.2 cable, and connect it to my u2711 to get 1440p or because the hdmi input on the u2711 didn't support this output res, that it would still max out at 1080p?

Thanks :)

Hi,

HDMI 1.2 will limit you to 1080p at 60 Hz. (Link) I would try a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable instead. I'm driving two Dell U2713HM monitors with my 2013 rMBP using DisplayPort cables and it is working great.

"HDMI video output
Support for 1080p resolution at up to 60Hz
Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz
Support for 4096-by-2160 resolution at 24Hz"

how many Hz will it get at 1440p??

Hi,

as far as I know there is no official DisplayPort cable made by Apple. However, there are several third party vendors who are selling those cables: Look here for example
