Hello guys,

So I have just ordered a new MBP 2021 and I have a bit of a dilemma, I have a Benq XL2411P, which can do 144Hz at 1080p, it can do this only via it's Display Port, not through the HDMI, so I am considering to buy a DisplayPort to USB-C cable or a DP to HDMI cable. What I was wondering is, if I get a DisplayPort to HDMI, would I be able to set it at 144 Hz, or do I need to use the DP to ThunderBolt(and waste one of the USB-C ports)?
The thing is I don't really want to buy a Dongle, or a Docking station as it takes extra space and I hate cables(and the new MBP has already all the ports I need), so I am considering just buying 2 USB-C to USB 3.0A adapters for my mouse and maybe some other device, and just take one out if I need it as a Type-C and put it back in if I need to use a Type-A so I would use all my ports already. Is this a good idea or should I buy a dongle which I find pretty useless for the new MBP as I don't really need so many ports, I'm good with 2 USB-A one C, as I would charge it through the MagSafe and HDMI(which I would like to use, but if it doesn't support 144Hz I would just go to the USB-C)

DP to HDMI cable.
These cables only go from DisplayPort (computer) to HDMI (monitor), not the other way around. They are not bidirectional.
You'd need an active HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort 1.2 converter that is guaranteed to "do" 346.5 MHz pixel clock for 1920×1080 at 144 Hz (this is assuming your monitor uses standardised CVT-RB timings). Like this one rated for "4K" at 60 Hz.

I’d just get a USB-C (computer) to DisplayPort (monitor) cable.

Thanks, I didn’t know that, what about the fact that I don’t want to buy a dongle, would there be any reason to buy one instead of just a usb c to usb a adapter?

Thanks for the response guys, think I’m just gonna use a usb type c DP cable as I don’t really want to buy a extra adapter for nothing, if it would’ve been just a cable and I could have gotten 144 Hz guaranteed than yes
