So at work, I use my personal retina MBP. I have always used it with a single external monitor they provided me. It's a 27 in. cinema display. But they recently gave me a second one. I'm not entirely sure if they are TB or not. The cables to the computer has TB (this could just be a display port cable), but there are no TB ports on the back of it, or I would just daisy chain the monitors through TB.
Here's how I have it set up:
Monitor 1: Power, USB, and TB cable plugged into Retina MBP.
Monitor 2: TB plugged into retina Macbook Pro
USB Keyboard, plugged into Monitor 1
Here's the problem I'm having:
When I want to use the built-in speakers, adjust the volume, or the brightness of the monitor it only does it for one Monitor 1. I want it control both and take advantage of both. Right now If I want to change the brightness on the second monitor. I have to switch the USB and power cables, change it, and switch it back.
So, what I did was to buy a USB extension cord so I could plug the USB bit of Monitor 2 into Monitor 1. It didn't work. So I plugged it into the other USB port on the Retina MBP. Still didn't work.
Is this not possible?
