so I just got my Acer h233h monitor and am wondering how I can connect the MBP to it? It only has a mini display port? Seems kind of ridiculous that apple would create a port only macs use? Or is there another way I can do this? I'd rather not pay 30 dollars for a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter. Also can I buy this at a store like target or something? because I'd like to get my monitor working tonight.
Thanks.

Mini DisplayPort is not a port Apple created — it's used in a lot of different devices, including Macs.

Since your external display isn't nice enough to use Mini DisplayPort, the only alternative is to get a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter.

Monoprice
Amazon
Ebay

All have the adaptors, generic versions that work just as good, for around 5-10 bucks *shipped*. I got mine off Ebay for 9.99 shipped.

By the way, nice choice on the monitor. I have it too. : ) You can hook up your xbox at the same time as your Macbook. Sometimes I use it with my macbook closed and sometimes with it open.. like when I am doing design work.
