So I tried to connect a monitor to my Powerbook assuming it would "just work". It didn't. I spent an hour trying to fiddle around with countless settings but the display on the external monitor was just doing that thing when the refresh rate/resolution is wrong.
Yes, the monitor is fine. I connected my Toshiba Tecra to it and it worked fine.
Yes, the mini-DVI connector is fine as I've done this before with other monitors.
Yes, the graphics card is ok as, up until now, I've connected the PB to my TV.
How can this possibly not work? Its clearly a peculiarity with Mac OS X as it detects the monitor make and model but doesn't give me enough options for Refresh Rates.
