Hello all,

I recently got the monitor and already bought a few cables and I'm not able to get 60Hz.
So far the cables I've tested are:
I've read that a Mini DP to HDMI cable will limit me to 30Hz at 4K, and well, so far the cables I've tried out have been the case.
So I wonder if anyone can recommend a cable that will actually deliver 60Hz at 4K before I spend on more cables. Or maybe perhaps is a limitation of my old iMac?

This is the output from System Information:

Code:
Resolution: 6400 x 3600
UI Looks like: 3200 x 1800 @ 30 Hz

Thanks in advance!

The Late 2013 iMac has Thunderbolt 1, which encapsulates DisplayPort 1.1a. This unfortunately means you cannot get “4K” at 60 Hz no matter what cable you use.

It’s a shame because the iMac’s NVIDIA "Kepler" GPU does have DisplayPort 1.2 and can do “4K” at 60 Hz, but the Thunderbolt 1 controller isn’t up to snuff. And its limitations still apply when using a DisplayPort monitor, since the signal always passes through the Thunderbolt controller.

You could hook up an eGPU via Thunderbolt and have that run the monitor at 60 Hz.

Oh well, that's a pity.

The eGPU suggestion seems interesting but a while ago the iMac started to feel its age on certain tasks, even when I upgraded to an SSD, I mean, compared to my work computer (which I don't like much, but that's another story). I guess I should start saving to get a newer one since Apple also stopped providing major OS versions for this model.

Thanks a lot for your help, you saved me a few bucks more on cables.
