I recently bought a Samsung Smart TV (UE46ES7000).
I have a external hard drive disk which connects to the tv so I can watch all my photo's and video's. But every time I want to add new files I have to unplug it from my Tv and go upstairs to my IMac plug it in and add the files.
Now my question is if there is a way I can keep my external HDD next to my TV without laying a 60 ft long USB through my house so I can have immediately access from my IMac upstairs. Like some kind of wireless access to my HDD or connecting both with Ethernet.
I'm even willing to buy a new External HDD which supports this kind of connection because my old one is getting overloaded, if so what kind of hard drive would that be.

I watched other topics but all are slightly different to my problem.

All help is appreciated.

Does your Smart TV have a wireless connection? If so, just download http://www.ps3mediaserver.org (free software) on your iMac and install it.

Make sure your TV is turned on and connected to the same wireless router as your iMac. Then check your TV's input list for a DLNA source. Now you can stream/access all files on your computer (music, videos, pictures) and the external HDD, which you can leave connected to your computer.

Let me know if you have anymore questions, I think this is probably the easiest solution for you.

Thank you for your quick answer.
I've downloaded ps3mediaserver and the program can find my tv so they must be connected through ethernet but the tv can't find my computer as a DLNA source. So do I have to edit some options in the program so that my tv can find my computer and shared files?

I figured it out, my tv finds my computer and now I can stream movies from my computer but however I can't find a way to share my HDD through my computer to my tv. I can only share local files on my computer. (there is a selection box in ps3 mp where I cant select my shared files, but no HDD are available).

Hmm, not sure to be honest. Did you check under /volumes?
