Hi
I have been using a beige G3 with OS8.1 for years and now have a G4 with OSX - 10.4 Tiger.
I want to copy the data from the G3 to the G4 before I finally retire the G3 and I have connected them with a crossover cable between the network port on the G3 and same on G4.
Neither has a static IP - the IP on the G3 was dynamically assigned during connection to internet (using Global Village modem) by ISP.
I have tried setting both to use Appletalk and Ethernet but they don't recognise each other.
I set the G3 to share everthing on C drive and give read write permissions to everybody.

I am wondering if it is something to do with IP addresses although I thought Appletalk didn't need IPs.

The G4 seems to want to default to use DHCP all the time.

Please can somebody help me get these to talk to each other?

Thanks
Steve
