connecting ibook to the internet

ive popped home where we dont have a wireless router which is what i normally use,but id like to get my laptop online.
we have telewest broadband with this modem box thingy, there is an ethernet cable that goes from that to the pc, ive tried taking out of the pc and plugging it into my ibook but it doesnt work, do i need some sort of setup? ppoe details maybe?

ive sorted it now, just restarted modem and my mac
