I have an iMac, Netgear Wireless Router and Comcast cable Modem (Motorola). Ever since I moved to my new apartment, I haven't been able to get my router set up.

The network cable directly from the modem into iMac works perfectly. BUT, the minute I try and hook the network cable from the modem into the router (or anything else) things go badly. I'm able to get a wireless connection, but can't access the Internet. Tried doing the Netgear Setup Wizard and it keeps asking me if I have a fixed or static IP Address from my ISP provider (which I don't). I've tried rebooting the modem, the router, the computer, etc., with no luck.

Two add'l pieces of information: I tried running the network cable from the modem into my work laptop (IBM) and had the same issue-- it detected the connection, but was asking for a new IP address. I also bought an Airport Express base but had the same issues-- it just wasn't detecting an internet connection.

Comcast told me to contact Netgear. I'm sure if I call Netgear, they'll tell me to contact Comcast.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!
