iPad Connecting iPad to TV through HDMI

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, I did some research, but couldn't get a definitive answer.

I know that using Airplay you can stream things to your TV from your iPad; however, I have found that it will not maximize to the size of my TV.

If I were to connect the iPad via HDMI will the screen be fully maximized or still limited?

For what its worth, I have a 47in Plasma Samsung HDTV.

HDMI won't change the way the image appears on your TV. Whether or not the image takes up the full screen depends on whether the content is the same aspect ratio as your TV or not.
