Long story short, I've frustratingly forgotten the passcode for my iPod touch 4G. I've tried restoring it and putting into recovery mode, but all of those have been unsuccessful and are giving me a whole other set of problems (I get an error that says: "this device isn't eligible for the requested build". Guess what? I tried editing my host file and that didn't work either).
Luckily, I had Find my iPod enabled and I was able to go on the website and Remote Wipe the contents of the device thinking it would remove the passcode too, as suggested by the following website: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212

However, the problem is that the iPod will only be wiped once it is connected to the internet. How can I connect my iPod to the internet when the furthest I can get is my lock screen?

Will turning my Macbook into a wifi hotspot work in this case? Any other suggestions? I'm so done at this point. I've even started working through the 5,040 possible password combinations in hopes of stumbling across the right one eventually. Yup, that's how desperate I've become.

Do you actually care for anything on your iPod? If not put that baby in DFU mode and restore it through itunes!

Tried DFU mode, still got an error message. But, luckily, I've figured it out! Needed to download new firmware (6.1.6) for my iPod and then I was able to restore. So relieved:D
