Connecting Mac running Leopard to VPN

I've been struggling mightily to connect to my employer via a vpn connection. After many struggles, it seems that I now am able to connect (at least my mac tells me I'm connected); however, I can't seem to locate the files on the network. In other words, I don't know how to have my Mac map the appropriate drive via the VPN. Does this make any sense? If so, any assistance in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
