Connecting MacBook Pro to HDtv- Need help

I just ordered the DVI to HDMI cable from the Apple store after reading that yes it does work to connect MacBook Pro to the TV. It does connect, however all the tv shows is the space shot for Snow Leopard. Why isn't it showing the screen? Is this going to work? Thanks for any help!

Your MBP is probably in spanning mode: open up Display Preferences and take a look at the setup. The drag a window from your laptop screen to the external one.

Thanks for the help, I looked at the display preferences before but not while hooked up to TV. I'm so excited this is working now!
