I am trying to connect my early 2008 macbook pro to my samsung hdtv using the dvi to vga adapter that came with the mb pro package. When I connect the macbook pro to the tv, it works perfectly like an external monitor for a few seconds, then the tv goes black. Am i doing something wrong? Or is it the vga at fault?

Your TV might have other forms of input, like DVI or HDMI.

Maybe you can use a different adapter.

Also, what does System Preferences > Displays say, when you connect your MBP to the TV.

What model is your TV?

I know some Samsung LCD TVs do not support Mac OS X, which is the case with my Samsung set (only Windows ). So I just purchased a DVI to HDMI cable and hooked it up like that and all works well.
