Connecting MacBook Pro to Samsung TV

I've got the HDMI to DVi cable and the regular cable connecting the iPod with the stereo (headphone plug in one end and the red and white ones in the other) plugged into the TV, and the picture is showing nicely but the sound still won't come out. I've also tried connecting the sound to the stereo using the same iPod-cable with no success.
What am I doing wrong?
