Is it just the desktop wallpaper that is only displayed? No icons? If so, then it's an extended desktop and you are using it as if it were two monitors. Go under System Preferences, the Displays, then click the tab Arrangement and click "Mirror Displays" if you want to see what you see on the Mac on the TV. See if that works.

when you have an additional monitor; the secodn monitor will not have icons, menu bar or dock, its just extending your desktop space.

either mirror the display or drag the application you want to TV desktop.

or another idea, make the TV the main display without having to drag the applcation over to that TVs desktop.

hope that helps.
